Marukame Udon Waikiki & Basalt & Koko Head Cafe (Honolulu, HI) Review

Welcome back to Happy Dream Life. Today, I will briefly review my personal pick restaurants in Honolulu, HI: Marukame Udon Waikiki, Basalt, and Koko Head Cafe respectively.

Marukame Udon Waikiki (Honolulu, HI)

 Address2310 Kūhiō Ave. #124, Honolulu, HI 96815

 Phone #: 808-931-6000

 Hours: Mon~Sun (7AM-10PM)

The Marukame Udon Waikiki restaurant is located near the Ritz-Carlton Residences. It is located about 10 minutes or so on foot, and I was walking around the hotel, and I saw people lined up, so I went into this place with a hunch that it must be a famous place.

It is exterior picture.

You can see the sign with the restaurant's name.

Here is the menu. The price of the food was similar to that of Japanese Udon restaurant in Korea.

When you enter the entrance, you will order Udon first. Since there are a lot of people behind, you can save a lot of time by looking at the menu outside and ordering it as soon as you go in.

After you order Udon, there's a side dish like the above picture. You can see what you want to eat and order it.

It's an inside atmosphere. It wasn't a fancy restaurant, but it was a cozy restaurant. If you stay in Waikiki area, I recommend you go there.

Basalt (Honolulu, HI)

Address2255 Kūhiō Ave., Honolulu, HI 96815

    Phone #: 808-923-5689

    Hours: Mon~Sun (7AM-10:30PM)

The Basalt restaurant was also located near the Ritz-Carlton Residences. It was about ten minutes walk from the residences. Basalt is located inside of Dukes Lane Market & Eatery as shown below. There are many restaurants and a small supermarket in Dukes Lane Market & Eatery, so it was good to buy breakfast and snacks after meal.

This is the front door.

This is the inside of the restaurant. As you can see, it's a clean atmosphere.

Here are my salad and pork belly buns. Personally, whenever I go to a Chinese restaurant in the U.S., I always order pork buns as it's really delicious.

Salad was really fresh.

The red sauce was like red pepper sauce. So, if you dip the bread with the sauce, it helped to eliminate the greasiness of the pork.

Here is main menu.

Personally, I like lobster, so I eat it often whenever I visit to the U.S. This restaurant's lobster was really delicious.

This food didn't disappoint me either. If you stay in Waikiki area, I definitely recommend you to visit this restaurant.

Koko Head Cafe (Honolulu, HI)

    Address1145 12th Ave C, Honolulu, HI 96816

    Phone #: 808-732-8920

    Hours: Mon~Sun (7AM-2:30PM)

When I go abroad, I always try local food. In Hawaii, I looked for a good place to eat Loco Moco because it's one of the most famous Hawaiian local food. While I was looking for it, I visited the famous Koko Head Cafe where they did not have Loco Moko, but had a similar taste. To go to this restaurant, you can't walk from Waikiki area but you have to drive there. It was about ten minutes drive from The Ritz-Carlton Residences.

This is the front door. If you bring a car, there is a coin parking lot in the back of the building. The size of the parking lot is small, so if you come around lunch or dinner hour, there might be no parking space.

It's an inside atmosphere. It's similar to the typical fast food restaurant atmosphere in the U.S.

Here's the food I ordered. The food on the left is Koko Moco. As you can see, there are many foods on top of the rice and I felt like it was Korean bibimbap. Therefore, it might be familiar to Koreans, and they might easy to eat it. The food on the right was a dish called Don Buri Chen, which I liked it. I would like to recommend this restaurant to those who want to try local food but can't because of the foreign texture.

SummaryI was satisfied with all the three restaurants. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was good. If I visit Hawaii again, I will definitely visit there again. Personally, I'd like to give four out of five.

Have a great day.
